On 11 March 2025, as part of the extensive celebrations commemorating 50 years of statehood, SGSC Chakung marked National Science Day with a meticulously organized seminar held in the college auditorium. This event was designed not only to celebrate the spirit of scientific inquiry but also to serve as one of the many initiatives honouring the golden jubilee of Sikkim’s remarkable journey since joining the Republic of India.
Programme Coordination and Leadership
The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Zigmee T. Bhutia, Vice-Principal of SGSC Chakung, with the overall programme chaired by the Principal, Dr. Sudhan Pradhan. The proceedings were managed by Mr. Pancha Bahadur Baraily, Assistant Professor from the Department of Mathematics, who served as the master of ceremonies.

Dr. P. C. Rai, Associate Professor, presented an insightful paper on the "Biodiversity of Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary." His presentation explored the diverse plant species in the sanctuary and emphasized the critical role biodiversity plays in supporting human and animal life. He highlighted the unique Himalayan biodiversity of the region, the medicinal value of various plant species, and the importance of public awareness and participation in conserving these natural resources.
Department of Mathematics:
Mr. Dilli Ram Chhetri, Assistant Professor, delivered a detailed presentation on "Simplicial Complex." His talk provided technical definitions and explored various applications of simplicial complexes, offering the audience a comprehensive understanding of the concept and its significance in the field of mathematics.
Department of Physics:
Mr. Bivek Pradhan, Assistant Professor, from the Department of Physics, presented his research on "Turbulence." His engaging presentation discussed the natural occurrence of turbulence, its intricate patterns, and the mathematical frameworks that describe it, including references to Reynolds’ and Kolmogorov’s theories. Through visual aids and practical examples, Mr. Pradhan inspired students to explore further research in this dynamic field.
Department of Chemistry:
Dr. Zigmee T. Bhutia, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, discussed "Green Chemistry." His presentation highlighted the principles of green chemistry and its essential role in reducing the harmful effects of chemical processes. Dr. Bhutia emphasized how green chemistry practices can contribute to sustainable industrial processes in the modern era.
